Wii Fit Workout Diary - Day 1

So as I mentioned in the most recent episode of my podcast, I bought a Wii Fit at the beginning of May and had used it a total of two times during that month. Yeah, real great investment there.

On June 1st, I decided that a new month was the perfect time for a new start. So I took it upon myself to re-start a Wii Fit workout regimen that day. Not only that, but I decided to post details about here and the other couple of blogs I maintain. I figure having people you know and strangers alike read about your success or failure makes for pretty strong motivation. And don't worry, I'm not going to post information about every single day. I think that would be overkill. Instead I'll more likely post a couple times a week in an effort to track my progress. That being said, let's get this started.

Wii Fit Workout -Day 1 (06/01/2009)

Workout

Duration: 30 minutes.

I'm not that great with the Yoga portion of this program. I admit I'm not overly flexible and my balance is sometimes shaky at best. Some of the poses aren't too troublesome though. The Sun Salutation, for example, that I can complete without a problem. The Standing Knee... not so much. But I'm sure with continued use and practice, hopefully I will be able to improve.

Did a lot of strength training this day. Exercises included Single Leg Extensions, Torso Twist, Rowing Squat, Single Leg Twist and Lunges. Apparently I'm being given workout suggestions by way of combinations of strength training exercises and yoga poses... not at the same exact time, mind you.

Balance Games: While they seem fairly simple, they do provide a workout. Unlocked a new one while working out today called Balance Bubble. I have a feeling I'm going to be playing this one many times. The basic premise; You are in a bubble and must shift your body in order to move against the current of a river and to also steer away from hazards that would pop your bubble such as the jagged cliff edges and wandering bumblebees. The further distance I've traveled so far is a little over 500 yards (I think that's the distance they use), and I still only manage a one-star rating. Needless to say, I'm going to work at improving my score for this game.

Now onto the Aerobic section of the workout. Started off with the Hula Hoop. I have to remember to hold still while leaning forward when new hoops are tossed towards me. But apparently I've done well enough with this activity to unlock Super Hula Hoop. Exactly what that entails, I'm not sure yet. Perhaps in my next post I'll have some more information. Basic Step, I do all right with that exercise. Still need to work on my timing some more. But I'm sure that will come with practice. Basic Run, believe it or not, is my favorite workout out of everything I've unlocked and tried so far. I decided to try the long distance course for today's workout. According to my score, I burned a good amount of calories. Go me!

So there you go, the first day of my new attempt at a Wii Fit workout plan. I'm going to do my best to keep up with this and post my progress. Thanks for coming by and reading.
